Lawn seeds in Autumn
Autumn is the best time of the year to sow cool season grasses such as Tall fescue, Rye, Kentucky Bluegrass etc., These seeds are contained in Munns Arid Smartgrass, Pixie Sun n Shade, Golf Course Green, plus the Munns lawn repair kits. These varieties can be sown 12 months of the year.
Early March in most states of Australia is still ideal to sow couch and Kikuyu varieties. Especially Pooch Couch and Emerald Kikuyu, just make sure your ground temperatures are around 23c (for at least three to four weeks). If the ground temperatures are below this then you could choose from the cool season varieties listed above. And then come spring you can over sow with Pooch Couch or Emerald Kikuyu.

Reviving that tired lawn
After a very un-predictable summer, along with the heavy rains on the Eastern seaboard and the hotter weather on the Western seaboard a lot of lawns look terrible. Now is the perfect time to do something about it!
To revive your existing lawn, cut lawn down close (catch clippings). If you can, disturb the soil by raking through the area with a steel rake. Mix your choice of lawn seed with Munns Seed & Turf Starter Fertiliser in a bucket. TIP. You could at this time also mix your once a year Munns wetting agent in with the seed and starter. Broadcast this mix evenly over the whole lawn. Lightly top dress with approx 1cm of sandy loam. This enables seed soil contact for better germination. Water the area with a fine mist spray so you don't wash the seeds into clumps. Keep the top 1cm moist at all times during germination.
Lawn care
If you have a Buffalo, Couch or Kikuyu lawn, Autumn is a very good time of the year to fertilise. Munns Buffalo Booster, Golf Course Green or Buffalo Green Lawn Fertiliser will green your lawn in 7-10 days and keep it looking good through Easter and the Autumn months.
Autumn is an ideal time to get your lawn cored. Wait until after the opening rains to soften the soil. After coring apply gypsum at 1kg to 2sqm. The gypsum will work its way into the soil and improve drainage. You could mix your lawn fertiliser with gypsum and apply at the same time and water in immediately.
Always cut your lawn and catch clippings before fertilising. Don’t forget to check mower blades. Sharp blades cut the lawn “cleaner”. Try not to cut lawns when they are wet and also apply fertiliser while it is raining to save water and money.
For a more drought tolerant lawn, fertilise every 3 months. This keeps your lawn healthier with a strong root system so that when the hot weather returns your lawn will survive drought and water restriction periods a lot better. A well fed lawn gas less weeds, diseases and pests.
